Violation Letters This information was provided by United Communities Management Company to the Board members. Since all board meetings are open to the public and these letters were mentioned at the May meeting, it seems fair that all homeowners know what the management company thought were violations. The first violation letters have gone out from the new management company and here is a breakdown of them. One hundred and forty-six letters were sent for the following reasons: (Please be aware that some letters were sent for multiple reasons, therefore the numbers won't add up to one hundred forty-six.) Maintain, or repair lawn and/or swale 80 Debris on property 5 Car parts and tires in driveway 1 Boats, trucks, trailer 9 Boat trailers or moving trailers 6 Wood fence 1 Paint the house, garage, and/or fascia 17 Paint, seal coat, or clean driveway 43 Repair back screen or front entrance 4 Trim back or side hedge 12 Unregistered vehicles 1 Trim bushes, trees 10 Holiday lights still up 9 Repair/clean mailbox 4 Remove stumps and dead trees 6 Put backboard on basketball pole 1 Unapproved addition to house 1 Missing house numbers 4 Torn car cover 1 Car parked on grass 1 Repair lamp post 1 Repair garage door 1 Out of all these violations, our original deed restrictions cover only the first six listed above: Maintain swale (number 20), no debris on property including car parts on driveways (number 21), trailers, boats and trucks (number 23), and wood fences (number 19). The management company completely missed the violations of use of well water (number 24), or garbage cans visible from the street (number 18), or paved parking strips on lawns (number 20). The company also overlooked the fact that one of our board members has a wood fence and a shed (numbers 19 and 16). Six homeowners ratted on their fellow homeowners to the management company, but only one complaint was acted upon, the one made by Tom Galiotti, a board member, against a person who moved into a house with an existing wood fence, used to hide the previous owner's boat from view. The most ridiculous violation was the one for lawns and swales. We are in the middle of the WORST drought in Florida's history. Lake Okeechobee is at a 70 year low and there is a threat that salt water will intrude into our well fields, contaminating our drinking water. One or two days of rain aren't going to solve the problem. We need weeks of steady rain, yet the people who think their lawns are more important than our drinking water are very obvious to this community. They are the ones with green lawns. Every person who was cited for not maintaining their lawn should be congratulated for their civic responsibility in not wasting water. |
